Triumph 5T Rev Counter

My new Triton has a 5T bottom end and a 650 top-end. The bike was supplied with a speedo and rev counter but only the speedo is connected, because I guess that the 5T engine did not have a rev counter drive? Is there any way of installing a drive unit onto this bottom end?

What would you suggest about the bike security, should I wire the mag earth lead via an ignition switch?

What is the common practice for Tritons using Mags?

i ran a pre unit bonnie for over 20 years and never had a problem  with anyone trying to take it that had magneto ignition with the cut out mounted on the handlebars so was very easy to start up and ride off having no ignition key as such,i always carried a padlock and chain to lock the bike up,this is probably the best deterrant, an ignition lock out may stop someone starting the the bike but it wont stop them pushing it up the road onto a trailer :o you could conceal a switch to earth the mag out i would have thought?rather than have a cut out button

The usual way to do this is to run a wire to earth from the cut out on the mag through a hidden switch.
I fitted one in the frame gusset plate at the top of the forks.

!!! Just make sure you get the correct rev counter timing cover - there is a dynamo version you'll need if your cases are from the early 50s (which it probably is if it's a 5t running a magneto). It's alot of money to spend on the wrong thing  ;)

good point but i do believe jamie stated the bike has an alternator not a dynamo,the other option is to have your existing timing cover machined to take the later bonnie tacho gearbox this would probably work out a cheaper option,this is what i have on my tbird
