In my 1960 pre unit 650 triumph there are two aluminium sleeves about 100mm long. Should these be a tight fit, so staying near the top of the slider, or should they move around (up and down within the slider? All info welcome.

They're there to help prevent the fork from "topping out" so are free to slide up and down in the slider.
