Does it have air filters on? If so, are they clean, new ones?

Mk1 Amal float heights are adjusted by tapping the brass float needle seating in the float bowl either up or down slightly with a flat punch (and not by bending the tangs on the float).
However, I do not know if the same applies to Mk2s?

As it's the 'old' R/H carb that is apparently running rich, what I suggest you check first is that the choke plunger mechanism is seating properly when the choke is off? The rubber choke plunger tips can also perish and break up, so they do not shut off the choke circuit properly, which causes rich running.

Presumably, you will have already checked that all the jets, throttle slides, and needles are identical in both carbs?

think i have found the fault, the bracket that works the choke unit on the right carb was slightly bent and didnt let the choke off fully so it was openletting fuel by making the mixture rich on that side will know for sure when i reassemble and try it couldnt see this without removing carbs many thanks for your help
