1969 BSA Starfire Info Needed...

Hey Gang,

  Looking for some help/info here. I am about to pull the trigger on a '69 Starfire, but I can't seem to find ANY info about them anywhere. Does anyone have any first hand experience with these bikes? Things like: range, top speed, reliability, availability of parts etc etc...

join the bsa owners club..they have all the info and a machine dating officer. just give him your frame and engine no and he will give you the history of your bike

not a problem,iam triumph man myself so cant offer any 1st hand experience on the starfire but iam sure the owners club will be able to answer your questions

It seems that BSA lightwiights C15, B40, and now B25 are quite popular on this forum.

I remember in 1967/68 going to buy a new B25 Barracuda from Collins in Truro for £249, but came home with a second hand 500 Goldie Clubman.

Mother was not amused.

Sorry to Starfire owners but i hate them!(The bikes not the owners)Over stressed engine, starting one has been likened to pulling the pin on a hand grenade with similar results.For what starfires seem to sell for these days i would rather buy a B40 anyday or even a 3TA/T90.Watch out for nasty fibreglass tanks as well!

I think that's a little unfair. The old over-stressed hand grenade is another 'Net myth which has grown steadily since the days of impoverished youth revving the crackers off some poor old nail which had been rebuilt using nothing more sophisticated than dad's Stillsons and a penknife. Oh, and a tin of Red Hermatite.
The results were as expected.

Fast forward to now and using some skill, decent parts and care they can be good little bikes. Look good too, for a 250.... 8-)

Parts aren't that hard to come by, even over on this side of the world. EBay is a fairly good source as is Lightning Spares, C7D Autos, Supreme, Gagg and a few others in the UK.

I've got a 68 that I got off a guy and am doing just a basic clean up of it as well as replacing parts that need it, which so far has been only a few.

I'm expecting to get it on the road, expenses permitting, within the next months.
