Honda speedometers...HELP!

I just refurbed a 1966 cb160 and it looks and rides great, but my first speedometer went out, not matter how fast i was going it would pin itself at the right end. I bought a new speedo and replaced it and it worked for a little while, but recently it has been acting funny too...when i hit around 45 or 50 mph it starts just jumping back and forth on about a 20mph swing...do these things really go out that often? Is there anything I can do to fix this or anywhere i can send it to get it fixed? Thanks much!

It could be your cable.  Often a sticky cable can give very strange readings.  Try lubricating it first.

I had the same problem with a NOS speedo head off a Honda 750 K7.
These things were manufactured 30 or 40 years ago and the internal lubrication can dry out a little.
The trick is to drill a small hole in the back of the speedo head and lubricate that way.

I had something simular on my '79' superdream, I just removed the speedo turned it upside down a let a little light oil soak in to the input drive coupling. It lasts a couple of years till it needs doing again, perhaps there's a longer lasting lubricant for the job?

Perhaps chain lube?  These generally come with the "straw" arrangment to put a stream of lubricant precisely where it is needed.  So if you drill a hole sufficient for a light oil to find it's way in, then a spray of chain lube sounds like it would do the trick.   Or if you think it is dried up grease that is the culprit, you may want to give it a blast of WD-40 first. (Followed by chain lube.)

my honda gave similar problem,it was the speedo drive gear .fine , then jerky,teeth-lugs broken?
