YDS5E Gear oil....
« on: August 26, 2009, 11:05:42 AM »
Morning all,

I have recently bought a nice '67 Yamaha YDS5, and im loving every minute of it! I managed to get hold of a copy if the owners manual which states i should use SAE30 MS or SEA 10-20-30 MS gear oil in the 'box.....I have found a few manufacturers of older style single weight oils, but im wondering if there is a readily available gear oil that would do the job just as well? I have topped her up with 80-90 gear saver, but the clutch really draggs when cold now, so it seems a little too heavy.....im confused about the 10-20-30 equivanence to seemingly higher rated 75-140 ish values for modern gear oils....educate me anyone?

Cheers

James

The best solution to your problem is use car automatic transmission fluid I used it for racing a Yamaha's TZ 250 and TZ 350 Both mashins had very vicious acceleration and it stops the clutch from slipping and made gear changing much smoother
