dion buton

hi there,new to the site,im trying to find information about a 50's dion buton moped a mate has,he bought it in france a few years ago.

apparently the frames were dion buton but the engines were from somewhere else,he has tried to find info about it,but there doesnt seem to be much to be found.
i have done the usual google search and nothing has really turned up.

Never heard of Dion Buton.
De Dion Bouton however, were the forefathers of the engine configurations that we all know today. Their efforts were initially involved in powering tricycles from the 1890's into the first decade of the 20th C.

I wonder if your friends moped is an import masquerading under a copy-cat name.

De Dion-Bouton moped.  This machine has an appearance very similar to a 1950s Mobylette LVM's  seemed just as sceptical about the machine's identity, suggesting that the De Dion-Bouton badge and markings might be bogus, since De Dion-Bouton construction ceased in 1923.
However, as is the case with the readership of motor cycle magazines the world over, a large number wrote in to put the facts straight.  A company called Etablissements Chichery from the Le Blanc district of Indre built cycles, mopeds, autocycles and motor cycles under the marque name of Dilecta.  They acquired the rights to the De Dion-Bouton marque name and turned out their products using both the Dilecta and De Dion-Bouton names indiscriminately.
