Can anyone identify this bike?
« on: December 02, 2007, 11:19:16 PM »
I have a numer of old photographs of bikes once owned by my now deceased Father-in-Law and if I can work out how to effect an attachement I wonder if anyone can identify them.

I suggest you email copies of the photos to Nigel (VintageBike) http://www.vintagebike.co.uk/Contact.html

and he will do that.

1st pic - Right - Triumph; Centre - Scott?
2nd pic - don't know.
Others - Another Triumph.

I'll give the Triumph models later but right now it's bed time in New Zealand.

Second photo shows a mid to late 1920's BSA, no idea which model though

Pic 1 - Scott? Registration AM = Wiltshire 1918/19.
Pic 2 - I concur with the dating above for WL 4139 = Oxford 1928.

Triumphs -
Pic 1 - 1931 500cc ohv Model CTT. JO = Oxford 1931.
Other pics - Registration JG 6554? = Canterbury 1936, although the bike is a 1932/33 500cc ohv Model CD, which was the sports version of the Model NT. It could well not have been sold until 1936 as these were inflationary times. The 1932 model had been increased to £50 due to inflation, but due to lack of sales of such a sporty model was down to £47 at the start of 1933. With more inflation this increased again to £48.  Unsold Model NT machines were down to £34-10-0 in 1934 , so I imagine by 1936 the Agents would be virtually giving them away - especially when Edward Turner's Tigers appeared in April!

The second picture as stated is a late 20's BSA. It is dated from 1927 to 1929 and is a 500 or 557 deluxe model. The deluxe model had many componenets different to the standard 500 and of course was very different to the sloper which was also available at this time.

Correction to my note above.
The Triumph Model CD registration JG 6554 dates from 1935, not 1936.
