I don't recognise the bike but it is in the characteristic grey used by the Auxiliary Fire Service. "5u" was a London station at Knightsbridge (but you might already know this of course !)

There are some more AFS bikes on the London Fire Brigade site :-

The AFS, at least in the begining seems to have received a motley collection of Civilian Impressed and unwanted Service machines.

Thanks for the input guys, I'm undecided whether it's a 250 or a 350 :-/

Anyone else have any idea's?

I 've got Barry Jones' "The Pather Story" coming from my local library, 'cause this is getting to me and I'm determined to find out!

Many thanks

its a 250cc panther I think,

check this link, it has a magneto fitted to the right crank case, same as the photo.

and this one is another bike with hand change and magliter.

No family connection (well not my family) :)

This was posted on another forum, where a member asked on behalf of a friend (who's Father is pictured on this bike) and hoped that someone could help with any info. Sort of doing a favour for a friend of a friend ;D

Cheers
