Need to know motorbike make and model
« on: March 27, 2009, 11:58:32 PM »
First of all hello, to all classic motorbikes fans, this site is great...  :)

I have a very old photo of my grandfather riding a motorbike, and I want to know which make and model it is.
He's at the right side of the picture (he was kidding with one of his friends and a little bike :) ).

The picture was taken about 40-50 years ago, I think. I hope that somebody can help me.

Thank you in advance.

Do you happen to know which country the photo was taken in? As that might help, because I'm not sure it is a British bike, as the bike's number plate certainly isn't British style?

The photo was taken in Spain.

I'm not sure, but the bike looks like a Excelsior Model9, what do you think? http://www.vintagebike.co.uk/Bike%20Directories/Excelsior%20Bikes/pages/Excelsior-Model-9-30.htm

About the only similarity with the Model 9 in the link that I can see would be the headlamp bracket, which probably came from the headlamp manufacturer (Lucas?) so could have been supplied to many different motorcycle manufacturers?

Your grandfather's bike looks more like a sidevalve model rather than overhead valve, judging by the position of the exhaust pipe?
Also there's no handchange lever, and the forks and brakes are different to the M9?

Using some photo enhancement, it may possibly have an "A" (BSA maybe?) on the tank, but I couldn't say for sure?

Thanks L.A.B. for your contribution.  I tried using a simple image editing program to aply more contrast and digital flash and as you said there are a "A" in the Tank and problably a "B" too.

Check this:
