Sidecar racing on the Clypse Circuit IOM.
« on: June 15, 2008, 07:21:34 PM »
I realise I am old and my memory is fallible, but can anyone remember a respected competitor  entering a road-going Norton Twin and Watsonian Sidecar in the combo race around 1958?  Was it Eric Oliver and did he win a Replica for his efforts?
My recollections of the magnificent effort, with the outfit drifting round corners in a most spectacular manner at unbelievable speeds has never left me.  The WOMAN passenger helped by tilting her head in the appropriate direction on bends!
The trouble is, everyone seems to think I dreamed it up.

If you Google 'Eric Oliver' you will find information.

Thanks L.A.B.   I now have evidence to prove to some doubting Thomas's that I am not halucinating.  In fact my memory (as far as it goes) seems to be fairly accurate.
The spectacle was one of the most inspiring I have ever witnessed.  It had to be seen to really appreciate the achievement.
I had no idea that Pat Wise had raced solo in the I.O.M. or anywhere else.  She must be a very brave woman.
The web addresses you supplied were very interesting.

Great sites.  Thanks for posting them  It shoul b said that the Domi was more than just a road going Norton.  It had been prepped by the works and contained some good bits on the inside.  It was great publicity for Norton and Watsonian.
