Questions (Triumph Tiger T110)

Hi I have got a few questions regarding my bike (Triumph Tiger 110, 1960?):
- auto-advance magneto: the auto-advance is not like the part no. 47502 (Lucas auto-advance) but is like a cage with little brass cylinders which are driven outwards by centrifugal force thereby advancing the ignition. Does anybody know more about that?
- spark plugs: are Champion N-5 ok? manual says Champion N-4 for alloy head ... but runs well with N-5
- front brake drum is slightly oval (brake judder). What should I do? Give the whole front wheel to a machine shop to mill the brake drum? or can it be done e.g. glueing sand paper onto the brake shoes for a couple of miles to get the drum perfectly round?
- does anybody know the producion figures for T110s?

Send the wheel off to central wheels for skimming. Forget the glue job you'll end up in more of a mess.

Not sure about the advanced unit. Drop Vintage MotorCycle Club a line (vmcc.co.uk) and they should be able to tell you the numbers.

Just asked local machine shops; they are prepared to do it. Guess I should have done it a long time ago, for thousands of miles I hoped it would sort itself with the brakes wearing off ...

Hi,

The judder MAY be caused by contamination (wheel bearing grease?) rather than an out of round drum, does the brake lever move in and out slightly with the brake applied lightly when the wheel is spinning? (If so this would confirm an out of round drum, which then needs to be skimmed).

thomas i once had the same problem witha t100  i spoke too the local brake guy finding out he was a bit of a bike nut  ened up he put better linings that improved the braking no end as well as skimmimg the drum making it round   well worth the cost and the effort regards rolley

many years ago when i was in the trade we used to use a reamer that coud be fitted idealy in a  drill they had 3 adjustable swivel legs with grinding stones attached i used these on many drums although they was made mainly for cyclinders many years ago you could get them in many sizes and was great for the average sized brake drum .not sure if  you can still buy these now would like to know very handy tool.
