BSA 441 One up, three down???
« on: May 09, 2006, 06:05:01 AM »
Hi, I used to ride a C15 on the farm I lived on back in the 60's. I seem to remember that after having the gearbox apart I put the selecter camplate in back to front which resulted in a one up, three down set up.  Does anybody know if this can be achieved with a 441 B44? It would make things easier if it was the same as my Ariel NH 350.  Cheers, Ben.

Hi,

I'm not sure, but I would say you can as the internals are basically the same. Some parts may even be interchangeable.

I thought that was the way BSA's normally were - the opposite, and illogical way, to Triumph.

Late BSA's did have 'up for up' gear selection.

Hi L.A.B.

Yes it is Up for Up at the moment, I want to reverse to match my Ariel.

Regards,

Ben.

I would agree with lxmlvll after comparing parts diagrams for both types does show that both sets of selector parts look very similar.

Ben
yes I belive you can because I have a square barrel 44 Victor that we put togeather to shift one up for 1st gear down for 2,3,4.
Its easyer for me because its like a Norton.
I do know that you cant flip a  latter year A65 to shift one up ,,but the earler twins I heard you could.
