BSA S27 chassis number

Hi. I`ve recently acquired a 1927 BSA S27. Can anyone tell me where the chassis number is stamped on the frame. I`ve had a good look, but no luck yet. There`s a fair bit of tape holding cables, wires etc, which could be hiding the number.

BSA usually stamp the frame number on the headstock, if the bike has had a replacement frame in the distant past then the frame would have been supplied unstamped.

If you look on the BSA owners web site you will see the sort of number that you should be looking for. all the best.

Thanks. I know what the number should be, it`s just locating it. At least I have narrowed down the places to look - thanks.

Hi. I`ve now found the chassis number stamped on the downtube just under the seat on the nearside. It was hidden by a battery box which had been clamped onto the down tube.
While checking the BSA owners club website, I discovered an error - they had listed the run of chassis / engine numbers which included mine as 4.98, instead of 4.93. They`ve told me this will corrected shortly. Thanks for your help.
