Variable wheelbase front suspension too....

Triumph riders used to strap up the front forks, so that if the front bolt/spring broke, the forks wouldn't fold under the bike.
Maybe this should take that precaution too ?

The Brampton for was a little different in terms of how the fore-and-aft movement was controlled.

On a Triumph, the part connecting the stirrup on the head-stem to the top of the forks was the spring.

On the Bramptons there are studs, on which a sliding block is positioned between two springs (one central stud on the veterans, two on the 20s forks), so you effectively have sprung top links.
In theory, nothing too drastic would happen if a spring failed.

Hi Nick,
I stumbled across your thread whilst looking for something else. You've probably seen this, but we published a short article on Perry Vale in our Obscure Makes series in The Sunbeam Club News (which I edit) in October 2014, you can find this on www.sunbeam-mcc.co.uk or the direct link is here:

Cheers, Julie

Thanks Julie - I think John H cited a similar post to my original here (on a local history site) as one of the sources, and I provided the images he used to illustrate the article.
