Amal Carb settings for 1955 BSA Gold Star B34
« on: August 29, 2010, 07:44:38 PM »
Can anyone help with the Amal carb settings for a 1955 BSA 500 Gold Star B34, please?

I know the settings are listed on 601/3 but I cannot find a link anywhere.
Many thanks.

Is this for mononlock, TT or GP?

Its a monobloc. The motorcycle is a BSA Scrambler (USA export spec) - 1 3/16 in

The 500 Goldie scrambler should have a 1 1/8 monoblock, 240 main jet, throttle valve 3, needle position 2, .1065 needle jet, with a 1 3/16 carb you will need to adjust upwards to suit, possibly 260 or 280 main jet.

I'm surprised, a friend of mine has a BB34 non gold star on his bench and it has a 1 /3/16th port. Unless it was ported out in the past?

The Gold Star scrambler was fitted as standard with the 1 1/8" carb to improve low down torque and  low speed reliability.

I have just been through my BSA reference books and cannot find any of the 500 Goldie range that had a 1 3/16" monoblock fitted as standard, 1 3/16" GP and RL Yes, but the jetting would be totally different.

The motor in the picture has the head and barrel from a 34A which would be 1 3/16".

In the days the Goldie was made BSA would build to order according to the customers requirement, so you could say there is no such thing as a standard Goldie.

Oh no, now we'll have to fork out for a very expensive GP! Oh well, he can pay!

:)   going through some of my old books for a BB 34 GS a TT Carby would be correct a 10TT9 is what specified but that is to run on 80 octane settings as follows choke size 1 5/32 main jet 360 needle jet .109 needle position 3  throttle slide 7  it would be a lot cheaper than a GP than more in keeping with a scrambler and much easier to tune as most scrambler's wanted low down power regards  geoffus
