BSA C15 wiring burning and melting electrics!!!!!!
« on: October 04, 2010, 06:32:58 PM »
Hi.

I have a C15 on which i installed a 6V electrical ingnition kit last year. A few months back my back brake switch had broken. It looked like it had melted and taking off the seat i could see all the electrical wires had melted together. I spliced new wires and put a universal brake light switch on and that worked ok for a bit until i was at a junction and could smell smoke and noticed the switch was burning!!!

I replaced the switch and went for a ride. I got back home and got off the bike. I nipped in for a few seconds but was startled to see smoke coming from under the seat. I ran out and could see the wires RED HOT so wrapped a towel round them!!

Do i need a new rectifier? Is the rectifier at fault?? Is this a result of the electronic ignition?? Not being electronically minded i have no idea on what would cause such a power surge to burn/melt the wire coating and tape??

Hi paulo
suspect a short somewhere
if its only the wiring for the brake switch thats over heating the first place to check would be to the rear light possibly where the wires pass through the guard
I doubt that its a rectifier problemor a problem with the ignition as the bike seems to be running ok
