Indian Brave 250
« on: January 30, 2006, 03:21:04 AM »
Good day... Seems I've come into ownership of a motorcycle, or most of it, that I don't know anything about. Mr Google had only a few words to say, so I thought I'd ask here.

Anybody know anything about the 1953 Indian Brave 250 Sidevalve, made in England?

Anything about popularity, scarcity, desireability... Fond memories, market value?

Bike is disassembled and incomplete, so no pic.

Thanks in advance for any response.

Doc.

PS: New guy here. Post at a lot of forums, but not motorcycle ones. Nice place y'all got here. Hope to come 'round more in the future.

Made in England by the Brockhouse Company.

Popularity - None.
Scarcity - Very.
Desirability - None.
Fond memories - Someone somewhere may have some?
Market value - Very low.

That's the best I can offer unfortunately.

Okay LAB, thanks. Brockhouse, huh... Well, that's a start. I was sort of hoping for someone to roll in here and say, "oh yes- I know all about that bike; it's just what I need to complete my collection..."

Hm. Leaves me in sort of a quandry with regards to what to do with it. It's a cool bike I rescued from being sent to the scrapyard (someone else's restoration project) but I really don't have time for yet another project. And making the missing parts (whatever they are) is going to take too much of my time. (I have a machine shop)

So if you hear of anyone needing a half-restored Indian Brave, it's for sale. What should I do with it? Put it on ebay?

Unless you are really serious about restoring an incomplete and obscure type of motorcycle that would appear to have been regarded as mediocre when new and not exactly seen as a classic now, then possibly selling on eBay may be the sensible option?
I don't know how many of them were made or if any new/used parts are still available as they were not in production for very long. I don't think they were commonly available in the UK?.
An avid collector of the Indian motorcycle marque could possibly want it or need parts?

I also have a brave in bit waiting restoration!
I can tell you this so far:-
They were crap, bad handeling, low powered and not worth the espence of rebuild.
But's thats just the veiw of most the VMCC members I have talked too, Still I have bit's nearly the whole machine in the workshop.
I also have a pic (from the net) as too how it should look.
The engine on mine is in a bad way, full of sand??
Maybe we could get one from the 2?
Need the space, or a working machine to rally with.
