30s Royal Enfield Toolbox
« on: December 30, 2010, 08:23:14 PM »
New to site I put this in autojumble but it may be better here apologies if wrong
I don't suppose I will find a toolbox to purchase so does anyone have one I could come and take some dimensions from. I will travel up to 100 miles if necessary or would supply a drawing with the required dimensions to be filled in.  The box is common to most 30s Enfields and is best described as a wall brick radiused on all corners stood on end. A mounting lug on each side and a flat door on the front top hinged with what looks like a suitcase catch at the bottom. I can find plenty of pics but need dims of corner radii etc. This is the last item I need for an on off 25 year restoration of a 1937 KX 1140 all I started with was a frame, engine and rear wheel. please e mail Pete  (Southampton)

Show us some pics of the bike! Surely you can knock something up close enough from pictures.Does this site have any pics?

I thought I had such a toolbox for measuring, but I see from pics that the hinge is quite different. Might explain why it fits in the space, but the mounting tabs are not quite in the right places...

this is the pic from the parts list. It takes me a long time to make things and I prefer to get them as right as possible

congrats, popnotch! A tremendous job you've done there so far! So get your bike on the road and use it the way its makers intended it to be used and don't let yourself be stopped by a dumb missing toolbox! It's not all that important, is it? And it will pop up somewhere, somehow, so don't miss out on the riding fun after all this hard work!
A happy new year to y'all
Cheers

That's looking great. You may have already thought of this, so apologies if that is the case, contact the following enfield@watsonian-squire.com down in Gloucestershire. I'm sure through their Indian arm of the company and with their unquestionable knowledge they may have some little backstreet Chennai chappy that can knock one of these out. Who knows you might be lucky.
