T100R Points/caps
« on: April 05, 2011, 12:09:25 AM »
Evening all. Confused again-so am I! Had reason to renew 6CA points and caps.  Caps were not as expected and do not fit onto existing metal frame above coils under tank. They have 1 male spade type fitting for wire as opposed to the previous posilock ring type(in fact almost look like the terminals are reversed).  I can convert attachments to suit but wanted to check if I'm missing something here(apart from grey matter) before I go and make a new catch to hold them/females to mate them and do these new caps have to be insulated from the frame when attached.  Also I am wondering if with a 12v stator and 12v  battery is it possible to know if I have 12 or 6 volts coils or does it matter?  I have 2 coils with SIBA 32000 marked which I gather are german and were used at the time with +terminal marked 15 and negative marked 1 for correct wiring.
Cheers

I think you've been sent the wrong capacitors/condensers (but what did you order? I believe the 6CA points were not actually introduced until 1968).

From your description, I think you've been sent the '6CA' 54420128 condensers? The 54441582 items appear to be correct for a '66 T100R according to the '66 parts book?

The Siba 32000 coils are correct for a '66 T100R so there shouldn't be any problem.

You're right there L.A.B. -  My bike has 6ca points fitted so I thought to replace with same and ordered 6ca (not knowing that they were probably not the original). It then followed that I should replace the caps/condensers which I assumed were also 6ca but as often seems the case with this old bike , ''nothing should be assumed''-the caps/condensers were 4ca ones.  So I at least have the pairing correct now and new so will adapt as best I can hoping the coils are ok now.  Must say I wasnt really aware that this site carried these type of spares and will check it out as well in future.  Muchas Gracias!
