Help & advice for Barn find BSA
« on: June 06, 2011, 07:28:30 PM »
A friend has had to clear out a barn and has asked me to take a BSA motor bike with a view to get it running for him or sell it, I`m not up on Motor bikes so some advice on what it is,year of manufacture, and rough value would be useful before I get into it too deeply.
Frame no.B50SS HE146XX
Engine no. B50SS HE146XX
It is missing its kickstart mechanism, certainly the lever and shaft is not there, and there is no stand
everything else seems to be there and intact. Any help anyone ? I will try and put some pictures on soon.

front wheel appears to be Japanese,

B50SS intro in 1971 last run of the B50SS was 1972 ( SS = Goldstar)

B50 were made later but with prefix B50MX from 1973 other models in the B50 range started with B50MX B50 T however some one on here will clarify the HE part of the engine frame number.

the HE in frame and engine numbers determines the date of manufacture as July 1973.

The B50SS is quite a desirable machine in fully restored condition, but yours has a wrong seat, tank and front wheel and is likely to need a full restoration.
So if you are not too familiar with old British motorbikes it would be best to sell as is.
I reckon it would still net about a grand in this state.

Cheers
Andy
