Help needed with DKW

Hi all, first time posting here.

I've recently purchased this bike, it's said to be a 1936/7 DKW prototype based on an SB250.

It spent many years in a collection in Italy (in this condition) and then it passed to an English collector in the 70's and a couple of years ago it passed to the person I purchased it from.

Does anyone know anything of this bike? Has anyone seen anything like this before? The rear suspension is nothing like the standard SB250 of that time but does appear to be factory made.

 Interesting counterlever suspension system with only one damper on the offside?

I think it's just that the other damper is missing. I assume the tubes that run under the engine are spring loaded.
