Hi.
I had a 500cc Elektra for a while.  Depends what you like.  There are a lot of mods that you should either make sure are done before you buy - or be prepared to get them done yourself.  Hitchcocks are the people for this - they know everything there is to know about Enfields.  I liked mine, although, despite looking like an old bike, it lacked some of the character I have come to expect.  I agree with your opinion of the trials version.  There was a lovely one for sale here on the site a few months ago, but it's long gone.
Cheers

Nigel.

Hi Steve
Indian Enfields are a good buy especially if you are not interested in wheelies , stoppies & such like escapades.
They are primarily plodders in standard form & will cruise happily all day at 80 kmph. We do motorcycle safaris in India on these & take them to heights of 18400 feet, albeit with certain carb mods.
I have 2 x 350cc which have done well over 100000 kms each with just the head off once. And they still go up to Ladakh!!!!

So, definitely a reccommended buy
