Brit frame

Hi guys!! Got a frame here which I've been told is a Brit one judging by the rear sprocket. It's got a raised frame number F4159 and there might be an A at the end of it (I'll have to get the wire wool out!!). Any ideas???

Looks very Triumph to me, but the number beginning with an 'F' isn't ringing any bells...

Triumph 3TA or 5TA.

The raised "F4159" number is the casting number of the frame lug-it isn't the frame number.

Try looking in the area around where the seat rails of the subframe bolt to the main frame?

Or try the front engine mounting lug?

The frame number should have an "H" prefix.

I'd have thought you'd find it on the left side of the headstock, that's where mine was.

I agree, but I assumed RWM had already looked there and not found it.

I did have a look there but the frame had been painted so couldn't see anything, but Mr B you were right, after I'd sanded the old paint off I got a very light frame number. Not even sure if it starts with a "H"??

You'll probably find the H if you rub it down to the bare metal. If it's there then you have a frame from a 1962 350 or 500, as L.A.B. says.
