Help! can anyone identify this tank??
« on: April 08, 2012, 09:23:19 PM »
I have searched google and cant find this tank anywhere, does anyone know what bike it is off? I think its possibly off something british? it had twin taps but they have been blocked and another one added and the mounts have been tampered with, I have pictures of the underside if thats any help, I can put them on if it will help identify the tank.  I have to use Dial-up so it could take a while but will if needed, any help will be much appreciated, Thanks.

Hmm... possibly, i'll have a look at Enfields on Google, I thought they might have been where rubber knee pads may have been, I have seen this on some old tanks but I dont know, but I will keep looking, thanks for your reply, this is my first forum question, it took me a bit long to work out how to post messages but getting the hang of it now. Thanks again, Dave.

Nice idea, but don't "E"s go the other way? Not like any Enfield tank I can recall, or any other tank, for that matter.

Looks like it was expensive when new, though.

yeah, i bet it was expensive when new, it looks quite well made, I seen a TZ250 tank on ebay that looked similar but not the same, no pressed marks, I dont know, any information on this will be great as i have it on ebay just now, but might remove it till i find out more about it.  Thanks for your message anyway Rex, thanks, Dave.

Depends which way you look at it  ;)

It's clearly a one-off, just thought it might have been made for an Enfield of some description.

I think its for a cb750/900, I have one very similar. If there are forward facing cups  on the inside of the front frame cutaway you can bet your bottom dollar it is.
If iver tha does owt for nowt alus duit for thissen

Hi bomber, thanks for your message, the original tank mounts have been ground off but i am pretty sure they were circular on the tank and cup shaped on the frame of the motorcycle, if you get what i mean, rather than the way you describe it the other way round, i think?? i'll attach a picture of the underside of the tank, you can see the grind marks at the front of the tunnel, and the twin taps, was the honda tank a twin tap?

No it wasn't, but Im pretty sure its off a cb750/900 (I meant the cups were on the tank not the frame.. sorry to mislead)
