Bsa l29 crank case gasket material/ thickness

I've split open my crank case on bsa l29 350 SV and there appears to be some form of disintegrated residue left from a gasket but not enough to determine what sort. can anyone advise what material this gasket would be and what thickness it should be so i can get a new one made up. there is nothing mentioned of a gasket in the parts catalogue.

Hi Rob,
No gasket is used , use hylomar or whatever your favourite sealer is
Get a woodruff key from your local engineerisn supplies shop or agri/lawnmower shop
The keys are NOT hardened

I agree usually no gasket - I use a Loctite non-hardening gasket product but there are many others. When you come to reassemble the bottom end, just make sure there is a little end float of the crank assembly - it is always possible that something has happened in the life of the bike that means a gasket of some kind may be needed to get the end float right.
