T140E CLUTCH

COULD ANYONE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE ON AVOIDING THE CLUTCH STICKING PRIOR TO THE BIKE STARTING,IT CURRENTLY TAKES THREE KICKS TO 'BREAK' THE CLUTCH BEFORE STARTUP!

Kick harder?  :)

1 to 3 kicks to free the plates is about normal. The longer the bike is left then the more kicking through it usually takes to free the plates.

A new set of friction plates often reduces  the amount of kicking needed.

This morning it took eight kicks to clear the clutch and its not the first time either,as anyone got a mod i could put to good use!otherwise the bike is spot on.Paul.

Not 100% sure if the primary case oil is totally separate from the engine oil on this model, but if it is try using ATF in the primary, or you could if desperate use the cable tie on the lever trick.

A couple of things
What grade oil are you using in the engine? (shares with clutch)
Car oil is BAD!!! for clutches !!!
If the clutch chainwheel or centre is worn/ notched this will cause sticking
So will some of the crap pattern plates on the market  >:(

Hello,the oil i currently use is 20/50 a guy on this site did say it should be OK,I do remember some guy saying that adding an additional plate (steel) should help the problem,however he was'nt replying to my issue it was to another forum member.Its spoiling what is a very nice low miles bike,When the bike is at running temp the clutch is very good with no hint of grabbing.

Its spoiling what is a very nice low miles bike,When the bike is at running temp the clutch is very good with no hint of grabbing.

Freeing the plates is a normal British bike ritual however if it is causing you such annoyance then try leaving the bike with the clutch lever secured back near to the grip as that will hold the pressure plate away from the plate stack and should prevent the plates sticking. 

Edit: Maybe place a piece of cardboard or something similar between the tie and the grip otherwise the tie leaves an indentation on the grip, or use a softer tie.   

Try it with the lever about half way back to start with.
