A purchase against ones own intuition is never a wise thing to do epsecially if seduced by both necessity and price. Which is what i managed to do by buying an 84 model GSX 750 ES, with apparently under 9000 miles on the clock from a seller in scotland last week. After market K&N AIR FILTERS ASIDE, ( it only runs rough because its been stood for a while!) along with a neta exhaust , meant the bike was anything but the standard condition alluded to in the ad. I persuaded myself though, to not be so cynical about these little anomalies , If the carbs needing a scrub and the original airbox refitting, then a decent winter hack with plenty of miles ahead of it will be worth every penny of the 700 groats , the 100 quid in petrol and the 60 quid a night stay in a local hotel so i could ride the bugger back in daylight. Apart from the battery being flat as a fart , and the lumpy jerky fatigue inducing uneven running at 4500rpm and above, i came away thinking i had shown a little faith and was being rewarded with a potential faithful little gem to work rest and play on in the future. Till the whine started. Accompanied by the stiffening gearshift and the horrible mechanical grinding sound which i at first thought was just a poorly adjusted and underlubed chain seems now to be slowly paralysing change up to (or down to second gear) and seems to be afflicting fifth gear . The trouble is , ive ordered oil , filters, plugs , and arranged for a reliable chap to help me deal with the carb issues this weekend but while am waiting for the service items to arrive , have 0300 starts as a driver for the local dairy. The certainty of my arrival each morning to pay for this disaster is beginning to look more and more uncertain. Im lonely and i,m troubled (and a shameless northern soul title dropper, but more than anything , im losing my optimistic outlook while dark thoughts of recrimination seem to persist. Is the gearbox , like my hope of cheap and plentiful motoring miles on a budget ,like the fuel mixture ,just a lean and quickly evaporating mirage..Any recommendations as to a suitable course of retribution against the charlatan who concealed this imminent failure from me.or indeed any crumbs of comfort as to the cause, and possible remedies which may dont involve throwing good money at a bad idea will not be acted on , but will maybe help me to get some sleep occasionally. Before anyone shouts refund, i paid cash, instead of credit card or paypal as two of my more sensiblefriends suggested, just to compound my stupidity. Outright laughter at my miserable position would be a welcome distraction from my constant gnashing of teeth.
