Licence for a combination
« on: September 14, 2013, 01:14:12 PM »
Just had a chat with an old mate whose brother has a problem.

He has a 'car licence'. He wants to ride his Chinese 125 with his home made 'tradesman's box' side car, which is MoT'd and on the road. Eccentric yes, but what's wrong with that...

He passed his motorcycle test a very long time ago and still has his pass slip - but never did the necessary to get his full moto licence. DVLA are having none of it now. They won't endorse his licence to allow him to drive his combination without all the full training on two wheels.

Having had a couple of non-vertical experiences on his bike going to work in bad weather quite a few years ago he's reluctant to go to two wheels again for the training.

Apart from the obvious advantages of doing said training which I pointed out, the simple fact is he just wants to do a test so that he gets him a licence to drive his combination without having to do loads of two wheeled riding. He wants to do it on his combination.

Anyone know a route he could take?

I understand the three wheeler licence is now a separate test (or will be very soon if you have not got a full bike lincence) so should be able to take a test on a combination

Just for info the pass slip is valid for 2 years from the date of test, after that you have to take another test.
