are norton jubilee's realy that bad ?
« on: November 30, 2013, 10:06:29 PM »
it was a rush decision not helped by consuming alcohol that brought myself and the little 1962 jubilee together . it was running roughly , i bought a gasket set and stripped the motor for inspection and a decoke , i got the panels sprayed and painted the frame . then i researched the jubilee 250 a bit and the reading diminished my enthusiasm for the rebuild . i have a few other bikes on the project and its now been several years since i looked at the bike .
were they realy that terrible that they are not worth bothering with ? ive heard stories of top speeds of 40 mph and regular blow ups , one guy thought a yamaha fizzie 50 would be faster ?
i suppose i'm trying to get myself more interested in the damned thing . it was the first production unit motorcycle by norton i think and shares some parts with some james 2 strokes .

do i sell it as is , flog the parts on ebay or get stuck in ?
keep her lit

I'm about halfway through restoring a Norton Jubilee and I have spent more than the value of the bike will be when it's fully restored.... I knew that before I started and just cos I'm a sentimental old twit I went ahead with the resto (I used to have one as a teenager).

I've enjoyed buggering about with it, but then again I like workshop time equally as much as riding (a good job some would say owning a jubilee). I still have to purchase the enclosed back end fairing as it was missing so the bike really will be over budget.

I would say flat out 80mph (fair wind and a decent incline etc) but consistent use at this speed means more workshop time. You are right about the James stuff. The jubilee has AMC brakes and forks which were not at all up to the job if you ask me.

If you are going to rid yourself of this burden let me know exactly what you have please

they must be going up , one on ebay over £3,500 , there are a few other machines id buy for that money , 80mph for a british 250 is right up there with the best and non would do it for long , they must be better than I thought , ive never had one on the road

The Jubilee is a real Norton and a rare little gem. I am glad people are preserving them. The are extremely rare here in the USA. Lots of Electra 400cc bikes here, but no 250 or 350 lightweights. I have some factory workshop literature for them I need to get on my scanner and out in the public eye.
