problem with sunbeam s8
« on: May 09, 2007, 02:12:06 AM »
recently pulled my sunbeam s8 1954 from the back off the garage. drained the fuel and put fresh in. took a bit off time to get going running but got there. when you try to rev it, its a bit rough and black sutty smoke. checked a few things but no luck. anyone got any help and pointers how to solve.

Black smoke from the exhaust would suggest the mixture is far too rich. Possibly the carb float has stuck, or the float needle isn't seating properly?

did you drain the oil and replace with fresh stuff? the cylinder bores might be getting lubricated from - and therefore burning - ratty old oil. if this is the case, the black smoke might disperse once the oil is refreshed

out of interest, are those S7-8s an integral oil sump?
