Reinorette/ Rhonson - Auto Vap 55
« on: February 26, 2016, 03:10:59 PM »
Having some tech issues , so have re-posted. Sorry

Hi Guys
Busy restoring this 1656 Omega Reninorette/ Rhonson Moped with an Auto Vap 55 -2 stroke engine. Ive replaced piston / rings/ bearings / seals/ HT lead / plug and gaskets and now its time to start her but for some strange reason on first kick (or rather pedal) , there is good spark but the spark seems to fade on further peddling.
The points are clean and the timing is set to 2.8mm before TDC and .25mm gap on the points and Ive replaced the condenser.
Im a little stumped on this one and have not come across a problem like this before.
Could it be that the main coil is breaking down as it gets charged or shorting for some reason?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Attached some pics for your info

You've answered your own question. All coils on elderly two-strokes are suspect no matter how well they test or spark and should be routinely replaced in any restoration just as you replace bearings and rings etc.
Replace the coil and then come back to tell us how well it is running.
It's just the machine for the Red Bull Alpine Brevet.
Cheers,
