villiers motor 716

Hi everone im chris and live in gibraltar i have  some years ago built up a villiers engined motorcycle named a borg, built in north wales about 1953 54,it runs ok .but when i was building it someone gave me an engine in a wooden box, its a villiers engine model 716 / 30259. anyone know the age of it or what bike it was fitted in, thanks chris in gibraltar.

716 denotes a 98cc, 2 speed 1F motor. This number prefix was used in a variety of penny packet manufacturers such as BAC, Bown, Bond and Sun over a number of years. It seems to be a Villiers stock number used for small time manufacturers who didn't buy engines in sufficient quantity to justify their own individual number.

According to a Villiers engine numbers list - google - the 716 was a 1F motor, fitted to quite a variety of bikes by a variety of makers - take your pick, they used it, circa 1949 -52 and maybe later.
