BSA Bantum
« on: August 07, 2007, 06:20:10 AM »
Hi, in 1966 i had a second hand Bantum. Would it be possible, to find out what model it was. I was 16 at the time and, it was my first bike. It was like a picture i have seen on here of a B40. In 1966 i was  a L driver, so i'm not sure what cc i could go up to, on the road. I think it went up to, about 58 to 62 mph.
Hope this helps, and thanks for your time.
Peter.

If your Bantam was on the road in 1966 then it could have been either a D1, D3, D5 or D7 model?

D1 - 125cc, D3 - 150cc, D5  and later models were 172cc.

I'm not exactly sure when the 250cc learner law came into force, but all Bantam models were well below the capacity limit anyway (the UK 125cc learner restrictions did not happen until the late seventies).

Well, the law has changed a few times but your car licence should give you a full moped licence entitlement, and as you passed your car test well before 1st Feb. 2001 this apparently allows provisional entitlement to ride a restricted 125cc (A1) motorcycle with L plates.

Here is some info:

But I would suggest you check with the DVLA, a rider training school (or the Police?) to be sure you are aware of all the regulations before taking a bike out on the road again.
