Just for parity they interviewed some Nazis who turned out to love their kids and grew runner beans, too. They also had Carole Vorderman and Christopher Biggins presenting a piece-de-camera on Adolf Hitler, and discovered that he wasn't actually a bad man but had a terribly misunderstood childhood.

I've just skinned through the programme and was delighted to see that the good old BEEB devoted about 33 seconds of their precious programme to the 1939 ISDT. Well done the BBC.

Only caught the last 15 minutes or so and never saw the ISDT bit but the stories on the hospital ship at Dunkirk and the general who oversaw the whole of Operation Dynamo were good, as was the part about the Netherlands armed forces keeping alive the memory of the first Spitfire pilot shot down over their country in the early stages of the war.
The final item on the young girl evacuated to Canada but died on-route when the "City of Benares" was sunk was very moving too.

I kind of knew that they would edit the hell out of it but at least it made the final cut.  Would you believe that those 33 seconds took best part of 40 minutes to shoot?!  Mind you for 15 minutes of that the camera wasn't working properly.

I'm surprised no TV has picked up on the number of very capable ladies who rode in those trials including the 1939 ISDT.

Nazi or no Nazi the organisers and Wehrmacht went to a lot of trouble to see they could get out of Germany and had enough fuel.
