1968 TR6R?
« on: October 02, 2007, 02:05:06 PM »
Hello,
I was recently reading Roy Bacons Triumph Twin restoration guide. In the models list in the back he has listed that TR6R's and TR6C's were produced during 1967-1968 and then again in 1971. My bike is stamped DU68446, and also TR6R above that. Which would make it fall into a 1968 TR6R? Is there something I am missing here, I have seen a few others and read some forums on these bikes, but is it a misprint and actually suppose to be just a TR6 or was there such a thing as a 1968 TR6R. Thank you....I am new to the whole Triumph scene and this is my first restoration.

TR6R is a US machine as it has the "R" which means road. "C" is competition, TR6 is a "home market" machine. Yours is an early 1968 model, manufactured in '67. Trophy/Tiger engine/frame numbers started DU68364 to DU85903, build dates 9th August '67 to 26th June '68. Triumph started their production of the new model the previous year, build dates started August to the following July. Your machines' correct colour scheme is Riviera Blue and Silver, with Gold coachlines.
See if you can get a couple of good books. Authors David Gaylin ISBN 1-903706-12-2 and Harry Woolridge ISBN 1-903706-12-2 and check my '68 Trophy on my website, however mine is a home market machine TR6, lower bars, but will give you the right idea.
