ROYAL ENFIELD 250
« on: January 02, 2008, 01:51:14 AM »
Hello -  I have just purchased a Royal Enfield 250 which I believe to be a Continental GT (see picture ) but all the photos on the internet show a slightly different tank and seat arrangement. Can anyone please help with the following :-

1/ Is it a Conti Gt

2/ I am also having problems with starting and have replaced the battery, coil, HT leads, plug and condenser, the spark seems ok but is not fantastic ( is this normal with 6v electrics ) The engine will start after many kicks and runs really rich - the bike will rev up but not tick over. Once it stops, it will rarely start again straight away, without plug removal and cleaning etc.

3/ I am also having problems with kicking it over - it was rebuilt by the previous owner and on inspection had only 2 friction plates in the clutch, I bought a third and managed to squeeze it all in to the housing. The clutch worked ok, but the hundreds of times I have kicked it over have now started it slipping again, to the point where I cannot kick the engine over.
Is this a normal problem it seems to stick at TDC and needs rocking in gear with the plug out to move it past this point.
