Matchless clutch doubt

A little embarrassing...

I was assembling clutch on the 1951 Matchless G3LS. It was slipping slightly. Someone told me the ball bearing is probably missing and put it. Now the pushrod comes out too  much.

Before you say,, its not coming out with greasing the pushrod and pulling out.

Is there a way to remove it without opening the RH side cover again.

You could try a strong magnet on the end of the pushrod. May not work, but worth a try.

I suspect the previous owner would have altered the clutch operating arm setting to compensate for the missing ball. Now you have replaced the ball  the clutch arm needs readjusting back again.
Adjust the operating arm by removing the external cap on the RHS cover and alter its fulcrum point via the hex nut you find underneath..
It's a bit difficult to be more accurate as I don't know what either you or the previous owner have done.
Can I suggest that buying the proper instruction book or joining the Owners Club would be a good idea? A good instruction book to start with would be "Matchless (single cylinder) by FW Neill and published by C Arthur Pearson Ltd. Second hand copies aren't hard to find.
