Gasket thread
« on: July 27, 2008, 10:11:30 PM »
Hello, I am new to the forum and have a question that I hope someone will know the answer too.

Has anyone heard of a technique using a cotton thread to form a gasket seal on a flange (like crank case flanges).

I would like to know more about it.

Thanks, Frank

Silk thread was, and still is, used by aero engine builders as a gasket, I believe.

Thanks L.A.B. Those links were very helpful, I was having trouble visualizing it, but the photos explain it very well.

Cheers,
