John,
Pushrods on B44 had different coloured tops one being red to distinguish inlet & exhaust, I think the red-topped one was exhaust pushrod, but I may be wrong (35 years of memory degradation)! |Presumably the C15 pushrods were marked differently too.

c15 pushrods weren't, well at least mine wasnt , I remember on at least two occassions getting them the wrong way round ok I was young and it was my first bike,(a very long time ago)  it is easy to do and easy to correct just back of tappet  adjusters until the push rods can come out then swap over and readjust valve clearances

simplest way would probably be to use heat to soften whateveris holding the barrels, but if this does not work you could try using a couple of blocks of wood in the bore and you can bolt the head back down and try to lift the barrel by rotating the crank ( please dont put your  pushrods in or you will bend valves)
 a thought just occured(which is indeed a strange occurrence for me) if you cut a couple of blocks so that they protrude slightly above the top of the barrel with the crank at the bottom of the stroke you may be able to jack the barrel away from the cases by carefully tightening the head bolts

If I remember correctly the rocker oil feed is taken from a t- piece on the oil return pipe where the return pipe connects to the oil tank, as Rex said the return to the tank should be fairly quick so I would check the whole oil system before running the engine again   Personally my worry would be that if no oil is returning to the tank, is the level in the tank dropping, and if it is not then is any oil getting to the motor
things to check  externally would be are the return and feed connected to the correct pipes at the union block , is the return or feed to and from the tank blocked or restricted and check the oil union block is clear  If these are clear then the problem would seem to be  with the oil pump

Does anyone have a set of fork shrouds for a bsa a65 that they would be  willinng to sell me. I am not too bothered about condition, part number I believe is 68-5082 (it is the one with the drop crown yokes)

 Was the bike making any odd noises, backfiring ,spitting back rattles etc
were the plugs wet or oily before you cleaned them? did you kick it over to see if you had a spark after you cleaned the plugs is fuel getting to the plugs? is fuel getting to the carbs ?

any more information will give us a better idea what the cause of the problem is

       usually with a 2 stroke the oil pump/ fuel oil mixture ratio should be slightly higher during run in period
treat the engine gently for around about 4-500 miles then gradually start to use harder until around 1500 miles when it should be run in I know that it will be hard to do but if you dont then youll probably be putting in another piston
         You will find that the oil in the fuel mixture will lube not only the piston but the big end, small end and the fly wheel main bearing
         in the uk mzs are one of those bikes that people either seem to love or hate and those that use them seem to be almost fanatical about them  Personally I was never a big fan

British Bikes / crank regrind

Hi
I will soon be needing to have a preunit 6t  triumph crank reground  :'(
unfortunately the engineeerinng workshop  Iwould have normally used  is now closed  Can anyone recomend a good reliable workshop preferably in or near to the scottish borders (newcastle or edingburgh are about the limits)
by the way the crank is a one piece on 30 thou undersize ,good condition,  but one journal is three thou smaller than the other which I need to have it ground

British Bikes / a65 side panels

 hi
 i recently bought a 1962 a65 to restore one othing has me baffled is how to fix the side panels
at the rear are the 1/4 turn quick release stud thingys but there is nothing at the front
there is a raised flange at the front of each of the side panels which i assume a fastener goes through  but there is nothing to fasten them to
Ihave a parts book but cant see anything in it

suspect a short somewhere
if its only the wiring for the brake switch thats over heating the first place to check would be to the rear light possibly where the wires pass through the guard
I doubt that its a rectifier problemor a problem with the ignition as the bike seems to be running ok
