Happy new year to all our original and new posters, when I look back through old posts several people have left who actually knew something about bikes and several have joined who dont. Itīs up to those of us who are left to try and help the newcomers.
 Imagine what it must be like to never have ridden a British twin without a crash helmet! On a road without potholes, sleeping policemen, bus lanes and yellow lines. When you could go green laning on a bike so gutless nobody complained about the destruction you caused. When you hadnīt got enough power to "top" the forks let alone pull a wheelie to impress old ladies.
 I should have been born 10 years earlier but I cant complain, bikes have never been liked in UK because they gave the working class a bit of freedom. I hope Iīve provoked a few comments to keep this site going without being a "Bentley Eight".

I built a VW beach Buggy in 1985 to take to Spain in 1990. did 16000 miles in UK during which time I had to rebuild the 1600 cc motor with Cord Rings and ran it on straight 50 same as in my classic bikes, Norton 19S. Triumph twins BSA singles. In UK it needed a good battery to start in winter, in Spain no problem, Only changed the oil once in 24 years, never used a drop. Sold it at Easter this year to a poser, heīs very happy.
Iīve still got fathers 350 Bullet engined Lambretta running on straight 50 and got about 3 gallons left. Iīve got bad arthritis and canīt work the levers on a bike or get in and out of the buggy so everything has to go.

I cant comment further, youīve said it whilst remaining polite.
Itīs nice to see there are still realistic thinkers in this country who dont need to look as though they are compassionate and caring to impress. Charity begins at home, and while Iīm on can I interest you in donating to an endangered species of appealing mammals in Morecambe Bay.

Hereīs a picture of a Bentley 3 litre 1924 taken in 1963.  I passed my test in the Mk9 Jaguar and also drove a Mk 6 Bentley which threw a rod through the block due to the previous owner using a molybdenum sulphide oil additive which clogged up the reservoirs in the crank.

I havenīt looked on here for a long time  but Iīm glad to see someone has now all the old members have gone for a ride. I had a Peugeot 504 Estate in the 80s and it was the most useful car I ever had. At least 20 trips to my Spanish estates fully loaded, including a full length roof rack for scaffolding and even a cement mixer. Hereīs a photo taken in Falaise.

Cotter pins do only go in one way round. if you put 1 in wrongly on a pushbike the pedals are not in line, on a kickstarter  the pedal is less upright so less swing.  Also one way it wedges itself in tighter as you kick or tries to loosen itself.

Small heath ? Bracebridge St ? Plumstead ? Meriden ?
We made this 500 single in 1929 and weīve been improving it ever since until 1965 and we won a lot of TTs so we are a typical progressive British Company.
If anybody wants one Iīve got a BSA Beagle surplus to requirements.And a brand new engine for an Ariel 3.

Once youīre moving you have the slickshift on a Triumph.
Father put a Norton 16H clutch lever on his Lambretta to get more pull.
Mind you, itīs got a 350 Bullet in it.

I just read in CAR magazine that Ariel patented the spoked wheel in 1870.
Presumably they mean with adjustable spoke length for tension?

I knew thereīd be someone on here who actually knows how things should be done, if father hadnīt retired and gone to Spain I would have had a go at wheelbuilding.
80 equal spokes? possibly Vincent or brough with interchangeable wheels.
WD norton with sidecar wheel drive?
