if leaving the pinion on you will need to heat the cases to remove the crank with bearing still attached . ive had luck with a micro bearing puller to remove the pinion . you could remove the pinion nut and tap the crank towards the case to get some more clearance for the bearing puller claw but it shouldnt be needed. be careful what you hit the crank with as it needs to seal with the seal on the timing casing. ive seen ones that were hit with hammers or something and it spreads the end of the crank and the seal will not seal. its quite common. if that happens you need to get the crank end machined back to spec .you may need to make weights to replace the rod/piston weight when putting the crank in a lathe . you can get undersize seals if required.

probably sorted by now but in case not

see if its wet sumping for some reason , or if the oil is not draining from the head quick enough (possibly blocked hole in tappet block) this causes the oil to go up over the valve guide and of course down the valve as theres no seals. its more noticable on the left typicaly as the sidestand leans the bike that way .
hope this helps

i can sympathise. most recent was t100 head bolts that were expensive and too long, i contacted the vendor who insisted they were right .if i had used then as they were id have bust the bottom of the holes in the barrels . i had to cut them to the proper length . ebay shops seem hit and miss on quality wheras established shops are a little less so .

they take a bit of getting used to when riding, they are not for the faint hearted . 60 mph would be flying on one and when cornering 40 mph is fast lol. you need to wrestle them a bit. great for occasional fun but for daily transport i wouldnt think of it.

they were buggers for corrosion on electrical connections .id check them thouragly first. i had many cb400a,cb400t,cb400n and the 250s too and neaver seen a cdi give up. i lost spark several times due to crap connectors and bad wiring though.

hagon progressive springs help the diving a lot , the antidive on the 1100s does not seem to do a lot .  the fj have the same engine as the xjr 1200 and 1300 albeit with different bores and pistons . i have an xjr also. good bikes for a bit of two up work and they have great brakes .
