Thanks carl. Its a big help.
Have another problem. Have dismantled the front & rear hubs , but am not sure how to remove the outer races of the taper rolloer brgs. I have unscrewed the plug from one end & removed the inner race along with the spacers etc, but am not sure how to remove the cap from the other end. Its already been battered in the past so iam taking it easy. It obviously need to come out before the outer races can be removed. Does on eneed to heat the hubs to remove the races ?
Take care
Anji

British Bikes / BSA A10 1952 650 Plunger Golden Flash
« on: November 08, 2009, 03:54:34 PM »
Hi
Am in the final stages of restoring my 1952 BSA plunger Flash, & have this help request:
1) The camshaft has approx. 3 mm ( 1/8 in ) end float when assembled in the cases, without mounting the cam gear. Upon mounting the cam gear & tightening the nut , this float disappears ( well, almost ).
Is this normal or am I doing something stupid.

2) The assembly drawing of the rear crinkle hub shows a spacer behind the bearing towards the sprocket end. This is shown between the long tubular spacer separating the 2 inner races & the bearing. There is also a step in the hub against which the bearing fits on either side.
My problem is that the hub I have did not come with this spacer & try how I may, I cannot see how this will fit???? behind the sprocket side wheel bearing

Take care , safe riding & thanks in anticipation

British Bikes / BSA A10 Flash 1953
« on: February 12, 2009, 02:58:47 PM »
Anji Mehra from Pune, India, Back again for the 53 Flash. Parts all finally together & machining all done. Would appreciate help on the following:

1) Not able to locate main roller brg, R130L which has the roller cage locked onto the inner race & the oter race has a lip on one side ( Clutch side ). Have found a similiar sized bearing No NJ 206, the only difference being that the roller cage is locked into the outer race & comes away as an assembly with the crankcase leaving the inner race on the crank. Can this be used or will there be any problems on assembling / dismantling / running ?

2) Any ideas on the end float on the gearbox lay shaft. On which end of the layshaft should this be taken up ?

Thanks in anticipation

Hi Steve
Indian Enfields are a good buy especially if you are not interested in wheelies , stoppies & such like escapades.
They are primarily plodders in standard form & will cruise happily all day at 80 kmph. We do motorcycle safaris in India on these & take them to heights of 18400 feet, albeit with certain carb mods.
I have 2 x 350cc which have done well over 100000 kms each with just the head off once. And they still go up to Ladakh!!!!

So, definitely a reccommended buy
Keep in touch, Anji Mehra ( Pune , India )
