1992 Kawasaki Zephyr1100 engine oil?

Hi All,

I have recently bought a 1992 Kawasaki Zephyr1100. The recommended oil is api SE or SF. Is it in order to use Mobil Extra 4T oil? It states on the can that it's suitable for all types of 4 stroke motorcycle engines, but the api is SL. Thank you in anticipation for your help with this.

'SL' is a more modern specification oil that can be used instead of the older 'SE' and 'SF' types. http://www.performanceoiltechnology.com/apiserviceclassifications.htm

As an update to what I said, there is some argument that certain 'SL' grade oils that are suitable for use in car engines may not be suitable for use in motorcycle engines that have wet clutches, as they may contain friction modifiers that could possibly cause clutch slip?

Although this topic seems to have been discussed on other message boards and no definite conclusions seem to have been reached as to whether or not these friction modifiers have any affect on wet clutches or not.

As 'Mobil Extra 4T' is a motorcycle oil then it should be suitable for use with wet clutches.

Hi,

I have put the Mobil Extra 4T (SL grade) in the bike and have since covered a couple of hundred miles. The clutch and everything else seems fine. Thank you again for your help.
