12 Volt Coil testing
« on: August 20, 2017, 04:15:56 PM »
My bike is in many bits as I am building it out of boxes. I have two matching 12 volt coils which are standard for the A65. Is there any way  I can bench test them before I polish them up ready for a refit on the restoration. Thanks.  :D

You could jury-rig something similar to the bike's installation with a set of points + condenser, battery and suitable cabling plus an HT lead and plug.

IIRC primary resistance of a 12 volt coil is around 3-4 ohms, secondary several thousand and obviously no short to the casing on either.

If you go to youtube then type in 12volt coil testing you will find a number of videos showing you how to test your coil.
