Calthorpe Ivory

I came across a photo of my dad when he was in the army, sitting on a Calthorpe Ivory (I think) registration DYT187. Looking on DVLA I was surprised to see it still registered. I would love to find out who owns it now and share the photo.

Not often that hapens, your best bet would be the vintage motorcycle club who have a register of all bikes on their books.

The last register of bikes published by the VMCC was the 3rd edition, in 1991.
DYT187 isn't listed, but many club members' bikes weren't listed as people were cynical about misuse of information.
A goodly proportion of the published registers were never sold, even after being 50% discounted, and many went into the skip!
All sorts of inaccuracies within the register, but a good idea that could have been improved with work.

I would try and contact the VMCC Calthorpe Marque specialist via a message to the VMCC, and or a message to
Old Bike Mart (monthly vintage bike paper) who publish such requests

Looking at the tax records, it's marked as "untaxed" and with no MoT record or insurance so it's probably a long time since it's been on the road. It was quite possibly transferred to the DVLA records in the 1980s when that became mandatory but my guess is it's either rotting away somewhere or has disappeared.

Interestingly it's listed as "black" not "white" which an Ivory Calthorpe would have originally been. And Calthorpe is spelt wrongly....

The most worrying scenario would be the DVLA search returning "No records" which indicates that it's never been registered with the DVLA, and they started doing that (issuing new style V5s) back in the late 1970s.
At least "untaxed" means it has a DVLA entry which means someone has been "looking after it" relatively recently.
Probably in  a million bits in some old boy's garage, and he'll "restore that old bike one day"
