Hi,

I have put the Mobil Extra 4T (SL grade) in the bike and have since covered a couple of hundred miles. The clutch and everything else seems fine. Thank you again for your help.

Ben.

Japanese Bikes / 1992 Kawasaki Zephyr1100 engine oil?
« on: August 17, 2006, 10:17:58 PM »
Hi All,

I have recently bought a 1992 Kawasaki Zephyr1100. The recommended oil is api SE or SF. Is it in order to use Mobil Extra 4T oil? It states on the can that it's suitable for all types of 4 stroke motorcycle engines, ??? but the api is SL. Thank you in anticipation for your help with this.

Thank you to everbody that has contributed, (a good excuse to go in and see Nicola, my favourite Librarian)now where did I leave that hammer and chisel! Seriously though having been brave enough to take a spin up the road on the back of the Fazer I couldn't hear any noise at all, probably because I was too busy hanging on for dear life. I don't think the problem is serious but I will get Dave (my son) to keep an ear on it and may well "go in" with spanners a blazin' should it start causing concern. HAPPY BIKING TO ONE AND ALL.

Japanese Bikes / My son's Yamaha Fazer noisey transmission

Hi,

Does anybody have any experience of working on a Yamaha Fazer (FZS600). My son's bike has developed a slight transmission whine above 40MPH. Any ideas as to the likely cause? and if it's a bearing that needs replacing can this be done with the engine in the bike or is it a major strip down? Any help whatsoever will be greatly appreciated as I have zero knowledge of modern bikes.

British Bikes / BSA 441 One up, three down???
« on: May 09, 2006, 06:05:01 AM »
Hi, I used to ride a C15 on the farm I lived on back in the 60's. I seem to remember that after having the gearbox apart I put the selecter camplate in back to front which resulted in a one up, three down set up.  Does anybody know if this can be achieved with a 441 B44? It would make things easier if it was the same as my Ariel NH 350.  Cheers, Ben.

British Bikes / Re: Questions (Triumph Tiger T110)

Hi,

The judder MAY be caused by contamination (wheel bearing grease?) rather than an out of round drum, does the brake lever move in and out slightly with the brake applied lightly when the wheel is spinning? (If so this would confirm an out of round drum, which then needs to be skimmed).

British Bikes / Re: Tax exempt status

Hi,

As far as I am aware it all depends on year of manufacture (not first registration). Unless the rules have changed without me knowing you should have no problem getting historic vehicle status for the bike.

Hi Gregg, Thank you for the reply, sorry I have not logged on for some time. Is it still ok to email you a picture of the (R/E?) crank for ID?

Hello folks, I have a crank for a British (I think) single. It has an alloy rod, a stroke of 90mm, the flywheels taper inwards slightly, it has a taper on the drive side and no splines. I can email a picture if required. Can anybody help me identify this crank?

Cheers,
